To be honest, this book had been on my mind even before I met the author a few weeks ago but I finally decided to read it (okay, okay, I listened to it via audiobook but whatever!), and I enjoyed it! The other books will focus on other themes (family, hope, grace, etc.This sci-fi is definitely one of those “quiet YA” books–one that is good but flies under the radar of most people and drowned out by books by popular authors.
That idea of withholding rightful or deserved punishment. Not exclusive to Christianity, but certainly a very important part of it. A strong one in this first book would be the idea of mercy. Lewis (who did a lot of direct analogy), I try to write with themes that reflect what I believe. So rather than writing in the tradition of someone like C.S. Babel's whole endeavor really draws on that story of man wanting to build his way to God (or become Him). As for the references, I think the Bible is pretty rich ground for allusions, comparisons, etc. So while I am personally a Christian, the book itself is following a character who most likely is not.
